A more indepth introduction to Reiki

Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900's, and is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It was brought to the West by Mrs. Hawayo Takata in 1938 and due to her loving devotion it has been passed on to more than a million people all over the world.

Rei (pronounced Ray) can be interpreted as universal, meaning that it is present everywhere however it can also be interpreted to mean higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness.  Ki (pronounced Key) means the same as Chi in Chinese, it has been given many names in various cultures and means life energy.  As long as something is alive, it has life energy circulating through it and surrounding it, if your energy is low there is a greater chance of illness.  Ki is also the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life, it is present all around us and can be accumulated and guided by the mind, for this reason it is used in breathing excercises called pranayama, it is also used for psychic awareness, manifestation and healing.

It is the Universal-Consciousness called Rei that guides the life energy called Ki in the practice we call Reiki.

Because Reiki is guided by Universal-Consciousness, it can never do harm.  It always knows what the person needs and will adjust itself to create an effect that is appropriate.  There is never any need for worry about whether to give Reiki or not.

It is always helpful.

A normal Reiki treatment takes approximately one hour and costs £30.
